Announced: April 2, 1980.

Location: In Papeete suburb of Pirae, on Rua de Pierri Loti, Allee Pierre Loti, Titioro, Tahiti, French Polynesia.

Presidency: President, Thomas R. Stone; first counselor, T. Amosa Hapairai; second counselor, Guy T. Kato.

Exterior finish: Stucco, using imported white sand.

Temple design: European, with French and Polynesian influence.

Site: 1.7 acres; with stake center, 5 acres.

Architects: Emil B. Fetzer, Church Architect, adapted by Temples and Special Projects architecture; Pierre Jean Picart Architects D.P.I.G. of Papeete for base building; upgrade, Naylor Wentworth Lund Architects of Salt Lake City.

Construction adviser: George Bonnet; upgrade, Alan Rudolph.

Contractor: Comtrol Inc. of Midvale, Utah; upgrade, various subcontractors.

Rooms: Celestial room, two ordinance rooms, two sealing rooms; upgrade enlarged baptistry and one sealing room, added a bride's room, a waiting area for non-patrons and office area; mechanical and electrical completely redone.

Total floor area: About 10,000 square feet, increased to about 12,150 square feet.

Dimensions: 125 feet by 105 feet, increased slightly by upgrade; statue of Angel Moroni on 66-foot spire.

District: French Polynesia and the Cook Islands, 21,000 members.

History: Groundbreaking Feb. 13, 1981, by President Spencer W. Kimball. Dedication Oct. 27-29, 1983, by President Gordon B. Hinckley in six sessions. Closed for renovation in 2005; open house, Oct. 14-Nov. 4, except Sundays, attendance, 36,861. Rededication, Nov.12, 2006, by Elder L. Tom Perry; local attendance about 10,000.
