New temple president

One new temple president has been called by the First Presidency, with his wife called as matron. They will begin service in November.

Elder Bruce C. Hafen, 69, Sharon 5th Ward, Orem Utah Sharon Stake, called as president of the St. George Utah Temple, succeeding President Robert F. Orton. President Hafen’s wife, Marie Kartchner Hafen, will serve as temple matron. Elder Hafen serves as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy and has previously served as a regional representative, stake president’s counselor, high councilor and bishop’s counselor. A former Provost and professor of Law at Brigham Young University-Provo and former president of Brigham Young University-Idaho, he was born in St. George, Utah, to Orval and Ruth Clark Hafen.

Sister Hafen serves as a Relief Society teacher and has served as a Young Women General Board member, ward Relief Society president and teacher and ward Primary chorister. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ray and Gertrude Skousen Kartchner.
