BYU-Jerusalem Center director named

Martin B. Hickman will direct the Brigham Young University Jerusalem Center for the 1988-89 school year, replacing David B. Galbraith, who is taking professional development leave.

George A. Horton Jr. will serve as associate director.Galbraith steps down after 20 years of involvement with BYU's Study Abroad programs.

"We are delighted that a man of Martin Hickman's academic and administrative abilities has accepted this challenging position," said BYU President Jeffrey R. Holland. "He and George Horton form an excellent management team, together with others already in place, to handle the affairs of our new center."

Hickman joined the BYU political science faculty in 1967. He was named dean of the new College of Family, Home and Social Sciences. He served in that capacity until returning to full-time teaching in 1985.

Horton, former chairman of BYU's Ancient Scripture Department, has been part of the Church Educational System since 1953. He is former director of the Institute of Religion at the University of California at Los Angeles and has taught at BYU since 1983.
