John T. Wahlquist, 91, former president of San Jose State University in California, died Nov. 28, in Ogden, Utah. The library building on the campus of San Jose State was named the John T. Wahlquist Library several years ago to honor his contribution to the university.
He served 10 years on the Sunday School General Board from 1933-43, and wrote the first teacher training book for the Church, "Teaching as a Direction of Activities," which was translated into many languages.He wrote more than 10 books in the field of education, some of which were standard class room textbooks in more than 300 universities. He served as dean of the School of Education at the University of Utah for many years.
