New mission presidents

The First Presidency has announced the calling of 10 new mission presidents. They will be assigned to specific missions later and, along with their wives, will assume their positions around July 1. The mission presidents are:

Juan Angel Alvaradejo R., 41, Campestre Ward, Monterrey Mexico Roma Stake; former stake president and branch president's secretary; served mission in Mexico, 1973-75; physical facilities director; studied at university level for five years; born in Mexico City, Mexico, a son of Juan Angel Alvaradejo and Josefina Redondas Guzman; married Rosa Elida Hernandez Gonzalez; four children. She is Relief Society president, former stake Relief Society president and counselors, Primary secretary, and temple worker: served mission in Mexico; born in Monclova, Mexico, a daughter of Marcelino Hernandez Gonzalez and Petra Gonzalez Lozano.Daniel Pedro Alvarez, 41, Caseros 4th Ward, Buenos Aires Argentina West Stake; seminary teacher and temple worker, former mission president's counselor, stake president, high councilor, and bishop's counselor; school director; earned teaching degree; born in Santos Lugares, Argentina, a son of Fernando Alvarez and Maria Elena Ibanez; married Michelina Di Giovanni; three children. She is Relief Society president's counselor, Primary president and counselor, Sunday School teacher and Primary teacher; born in Isernia, Italy, a daughter of Cosme Damian Miguel and Santina Lubrano Di Giovanni.

Robert Thomas Ferguson, 58, Valley View 11th Ward, Salt Lake Holladay North Stake; Young Men general board member, former stake executive secretary, stake missionary, high councilor, district president, bishop, Young Men president, and Sunday School teacher; retired otolaryngologist; earned bachelor's and medical degrees from University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Clemon Emmerson and Lucile Elaine Marcusen Ferguson; married Joan Mendenhall; seven children. She is a ward activation missionary and visiting teacher, former stake Primary president's secretary, ward Relief Society president and secretary, Young Women teacher, Primary teacher, ward organist and Blazer B leader; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of Wells Barney and Thelma Marianne Browne Mendenhall.

Gary Lee Browning, 49, Pleasant View 1st Ward, Provo Utah Sharon East Stake; stake president's counselor, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, Young Men president's counselor, high priests group instructor, and Sunday School teacher; served mission in Finland, 1960-63; professor of Russian at BYU; earned bachelor's degree from BYU and doctorate degree from Harvard University; born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a son of Gerald Edward and Martha Hansen Browning; married Joan Wagstaff; five children. She is Primary sharing time leader and visiting teacher, former stake Young Women board member, Relief Society president and counselor, Primary president's counselor, and Relief Society homemaking leader; born in Havre, Mont., a daughter of George Brinton and Laura Elizabeth Everton Wagstaff.

Jerry M. Hess, 52, Nampa 1st Ward, Nampa Idaho Stake; mission president's executive assistant, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop and counselor, Sunday School president, and elders quorum president; self-employed; studied at Boise State University; born in Preston, Idaho, a son of Lewis William and Orvilla Moser Hess; married Joan Elaine Hughes; six children. She is visiting teacher, former Relief Society president's secretary and Mia Maid adviser; born in Nampa, Idaho, a daughter of Lloyd Rufus and Mary Elizabeth Daniel Hughes.

Charles Edward Jones, 54, Arcadia Ward, Phoenix Arizona Camelback Stake; stake president, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, and bishop; served in the French Mission, 1955-58; lawyer; earned bachelor's degree from BYU and juris doctorate from Stanford University; born in Lethbridge, Alberta, a son of Charles Edward and Lorena Holman Jones; married Elizabeth Ann Anderson; seven children. She is seminary instructor, former stake Primary inservice leader, ward Primary president's counselor, Primary teacher, and Relief Society teacher; born in Safford, Ariz., a daughter of Guy and Elizabeth Layton Anderson.

Dean Odell Peck, 61, Foothill Ward, Sacramento California North Stake; currently serving as missionary in Philippines Cebu Mission, former stake president and counselor, bi-regional welfare agent, bishop's counselor, gospel doctrine teacher, Sunday School president, and elders quorum president; served in Eastern States Mission, 1949-51; retired; earned bachelor's and master's degrees from BYU; born in Lehi, Utah, a son of Elisha Odell and Lileth Petersen Peck; married Bonnie Jean Kirkham; four children. She is serving with her husband as missionary in Philippines Cebu Mission; former stake Young Women board member, stake record extraction director, ward Relief Society president and counselor, and assistant area director for welfare services; born in Lehi, Utah, a daughter of Thomas Franklin and Margaret Jane Chavanaugh Kirkham.

Octaviano Tenorio D., 47, Valle de Aragon 1st Ward, Mexico City Mexico Anahuac Stake; regional representative, former stake president and counselor, stake clerk, and branch president; temple recorder; studied private accounting for three years; born in Tilapan, Mexico, a son of Octaviano Tenorio Herrera and Flora Dominguez Vazquez; married Rosa Elva Valenzuela G.; three children. She is Relief Society homemaking leader, former Young Women president, Relief Society president, counselor and secretary, and ward music director; born in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Mexico, a daughter of Francisco Valenzuela Monje and Maria Refugio Gonzalez Gamboa.

Richard Willard Thatcher, 51, Harbor Hills Ward, Newport Beach California Stake; Sigma Gamma Chi chapter adviser, former mission president's counselor, high councilor, and bishop's counselor; served mission in France, 1959-61; ophthalmologist; earned medical degree from George Washington University Medical School and ophthalmology degree from University of California at Los Angeles Medical School; born in Los Angeles, Calif., a son of John William and Eva Caroline Hansen Thatcher; married Sarah Helen Peterson; three children. She is an area Lambda Delta Sigma adviser, former Relief Society president, Laurel adviser, and seminary teacher; born in Mount Pleasant, Utah, a daughter of Stanley C. and Iris Rasmussen Peterson.

Clifton Elwood Treglown, 59, Mountain View 2nd Ward, West Jordan Utah Mountain View Stake; just released as missionary at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii, former high councilor, bishop, and Young Men president; served mission in Samoa, 1951-53; retired high school art teacher; earned bachelor's degree from BYU and master's degree from University of Utah; born in Eureka, Utah, a son of Alfred Truman and Folles Magdalene Atherley Treglown; married Carol Joyce Peck; three children. She was just released with husband as missionary at the Polynesian Cultural Center, former stake and ward Relief Society president, ward Young Women president, and Primary teacher; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of Willard S. and Marjorie Helen Knowlden Peck.
