Former BYU coach and athletic director Edwin R. "Eddie" Kimball died Dec. 26 at his home in Provo, Utah, at age 87.
Kimball was sometimes referred to as "Mr. BYU" for his nearly 50 years of involvement in Cougar athletics.In 1937, Kimball was offered the position of head football and basketball coach and athletic director at BYU. He coached basketball four years, football nine years, and was athletic director for 27 years.
Kimball was named to four halls of fame - National Football Hall of Fame, Utah Sports Hall of Fame, BYU Hall of Fame and the Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.
