Speaking at the priesthood session Saturday evening, Elder Jack H. Goaslind of the Seventy told young men of the Aaronic Priesthood that a distinguishing quality of righteous young men was expressed in a word he saw printed on a youth conference T shirt, Yagottawanna. The wearer of the shirt told him it means "you have to want to do something before you will do it."
"It reminds me of one of the qualities of Godhood," remarked Elder Goaslind, Young Men general president. " And there is nothing that the Lord thy God shall take in his heart to do but what he will do it.' (Abr. 3:17.) Isn't it wonderful that we can trust our Father in heaven to do what He says He will do?"A healthy, spiritual feeling is the desire to do something good after hearing an inspiring thought, hymn or story, Elder Goaslind observed. "But how often have you followed through on those feelings? . . . As C. S. Lewis said,The more often [a personT feels without acting, the less he will be able ever to act, and, in the long run, the less he will be able to feel.'
" `Yagottawanna' also helps us understand the principle of agency. Youth with sincere desires take initiative. They do things without waiting to be told. They act rather than wait to be acted upon.
"They are in control of themselves. Such control is a wonderful feeling. It is a feeling we get when we exercise one of our most precious gifts - that of free agency."
"Yagottawanna" is a principle that can help young people keep themselves free of immoral conduct and be an influence for good.
