Guam members prepared for Typhoon Gay's fury

Members in Guam had a lot to be thankful for Thanksgiving day. Three days earlier, Typhoon Gay hit the island with winds blowing at 70 mph to 120 mph, cutting electrical and water services and destroying some homes.

Thanks to the Church's Emergency Preparedness Program, members were forewarned of the typhoon and had time to prepare. A day before the typhoon hit, priesthood leaders instructed all home teachers to visit their families and assist in boarding up their homes, and to check their water storage, food storage, and other basic necessities included in the emergency preparedness program. No members were injured in the typhoon's strong winds. Being prepared continues to benefit members as there were still power outages and water shortage as of Dec. 6.

Typhoon Gay is the ninth typhoon to hit Guam this year. Members have had their testimonies strengthened concerning the Church welfare program, according to officials in the Micronesia Regional Presiding Bishopric's Office.
