New relationships director named for Church and BSA

Professional Scouter Hart Bullock has been appointed director of LDS relationships for the Boy Scouts of America.

Brother Bullock also is serving as director of BSA's Area 2, which includes Utah, Idaho and Wyoming.A former Scouting area director in Southern California who has 30 years of experience with BSA, Brother Bullock said the relationship between Boy Scouts of America and the Church is significant because of the large number of LDS young men and leaders who participate in Church-sponsored units. Of the 4.1 million members of BSA, 350,000 youth and 150,000 adult leaders belong to LDS-sponsored Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity and Explorer units.

"As important as the numbers are, even more important is the fact that the Church and Scouting are philosophically linked," he noted. "We espouse the same purposes, goals and ideals. That's why we should work together. We're trying to make the same positive things happen in the lives of young men."

Brother Bullock is a native of Provo, Utah, and graduate of BYU. He has served as a bishop, bishop's counselor, high councilor and in several Scouting-related callings.

He and his wife, Janice, are parents of six children and reside in the Chase Lane Ward, Centerville Utah North stake.
