Sister Benson receives BYU womanhood award for living exemplary life

Flora Amussen Benson, wife of Church President Ezra Taft Benson, received BYU's 1992 Exemplary Womanhood Award.

Amy Miner, president of the BYU Student Service Association (BYUSA), and Maren Mouritsen, dean of Student Life, presented Sister Benson with an award plaque March 31 in her Salt Lake City apartment."The Exemplary Womanhood Award is given to a woman who represents an ideal for Mormon women," Sister Miner said. "Over the years, Sister Benson has been a wonderful support to the prophet, giving service daily and providing an example for young LDS women. The students at BYU nominated her because of her lifetime example."

BYUSA presents the award to women every other year. On alternating years, an Exemplary Manhood award is given.

The Exemplary Womanhood Award was announced officially at an assembly in the Wilkinson Center Ballroom April 9.

Sister Benson was the youngest child of Carl Christian Amussen, Utah's first jeweler. She served a mission to Hawaii, and on Sept, 10, 1926, married Ezra Taft Benson. They are parents of two sons and four daughters and have 34 grandchildren.
