New mission presidents

The First Presidency has announced the call of eight more mission presidents. The new presidents and their wives will be assigned to a specific mission later and will begin their service about July 1. Those called are:

Rene J. Cabrera B., 41, Miraflores Ward, La Paz Bolivia Miraflores Stake; mission president's counselor, former mission president's counselor, high councilor, bishop, and elders quorum president; served in Bolivia Cochabamba Mission, 1983-1985; regional manager for Bolivia Area Office; earned bachelor's degree from Miguel de Cervantes College and attended the University of Mayo de San Andres; born in Catavi-Potosi, Bolivia, a son of Juan Cabrera Fernandez and Alcira Balanza de Cabrera; married Teresa Perales Vizcarra, two children. She is a Sunday School teacher, former Relief Society president and instructor, and Primary teacher; teacher at Liceo Tecnico Uruguay; earned bachelor's degree from Miguel de Cervantes College and master's degree from Tecnica Superior Normal School; born in La Paz, Bolivia, a daughter of Celestino Perales Trino and Ecilda de Vizcarra.Gene B. Cross, 58, Danville 2nd Ward, Danville California Stake; high councilor, former temple assistant supervisor, high councilor, bishop and counselor, high priests group leader, Sunday School teacher, and seminary teacher; served in California Oakland Mission, working in Cambodian branch; associate vice chancellor at the University of California at Berkeley; earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Utah; born in Boise, Idaho, a son of Arnold Frank and Leila Pearl Willis Cross; married Anita Loree Bills, seven children. She is a temple ordinance worker, former stake Young Women president's counselor, stake Primary president's counselor, extractions worker, Relief Society president's counselor, and Young Women president and counselor; served in California Oakland Mission with husband in Cambodian branch; earned bachelor's degree from BYU; born in Salmon, Idaho, a daughter of Lawrence J. and Evelyn Kathryn Slavin Bills.

L. Holley Fryer, 64, Olympus 1st Ward, Salt Lake Olympus Stake; gospel doctrine teacher, former high councilor, bishop and counselor, high priests group leader, and elders quorum president; chairman of the board for automotive filter company; earned bachelor's degree from the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Lathael Leonane and Florence McDonald Fryer; married Marna Lou Callister, seven children. She is a Relief Society homemaking leader's assistant, former stake Relief Society president's counselor, ward Relief Society president, Primary president, counselor, and teacher, and Young Women adviser; attended the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of Paul Quayle and Mary Bramwell Callister.

Jerry Keith Lawrence, 64, Bountiful 56th Ward, Bountiful Utah Mueller Park Stake; former high councilor and bishop, and ward activities committee member; served in British Mission, 1949-1951; owner of construction company; attended the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of George Edward and Irene Mary Kneblau Lawrence; married Ivy Beth Burnett, six children. She is a temple worker and ward activities committee member, former stake Relief Society president's counselor, ward Relief Society president, ward choir and music director, and Jr. Sunday School chorister; attended BYU; born in Clinton, Utah, a daughter of Revere and Ivy Celisea Ross Burnett.

Jerry L. McCleary, 57, Wasatch 2nd Branch, Salt Lake Wasatch Stake; branch president's counselor, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, high priests group leader, elders quorum president's counselor, Sunday School and Primary teacher; retired high school principal; earned bachelor's degree and did post graduate work at the University of Utah; born in Murray, Utah, a son of William F. and Delsa Christensen McCleary; married Shirla Ann Jones, five children. She is a visiting teaching supervisor, former Relief Society president, secretary, and teacher, ward librarian, Sunday School and Primary teacher, and Young Women adviser and secretary; born in South Jordan, Utah, a daughter of Ivan LeRoy and Gladys Adora Ostler Jones.

Lewis F. Monsen, 59, Holden Ward, Fillmore Utah Stake; stake Sunday School president, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop's counselor, elders quorum president's counselor, and ward Sunday School president and teacher; school district administrator; earned bachelor's degree from BYU; born in Salmon, Idaho, a son of Farrell LaVerne and Utahna Bird Monsen; married Janet Johnson, seven children. She is a Relief Society spiritual living teacher, former stake Young Women adviser, compassionate service leader, homemaking leader, Young Women president, Primary president's counselor and teacher, and Sunday School teacher; born in Holden, Utah, a daughter of Thaddeus Orson and Neva Nixon Johnson.

Boyd R. Poulton, 44, Burley 2nd Ward, Burley Idaho Stake; ward Young Men president, former stake president, high councilor, bishop, ward executive secretary, elders quorum president, Sunday School teacher; served in California South Mission, 1968-1970; real estate broker/small business owner; attended Utah State University; born in Oakley, Idaho, a son of George Boyd and Dorothy Eva Ross Poulton; married Delores "Dee" Jeppson, five children. She is a stake Primary president, former ward Young Women president, Cub den mother, Relief Society and Primary teacher, stake and ward Primary nursery leader; born in Murray, Utah, a daughter of Ervin Fenton and LaRue Burgon Jeppson.

Hector Manuel Verdugo R., 42, Los Alpes 1st Ward, Rancagua Chile Stake; regional representative, former mission president's counselor, stake president, district president, branch president, mission leader; Church Educational System coordinator; graduate of telecommunications school; born in Santiago, Chile, a son of Hector Verdugo and Emy Radrigan de Verdugo; married Marcela Marta Ibanez, three children. She is a Young Women president, former Relief Society and Young Women president, Junior Sunday School coordinator; born in Requinoa, Chile, a daughter of Reinaldo Ibanez and Hilda Corral de Ibanez.
