An estimated 12,000 people, wrapped in blankets and coats, gathered Oct. 9, a chilly autumn Saturday, to witness the groundbreaking for the Church's 49th temple, the Mt. Timpanogos Utah Temple.
President Gordon B. Hinckley presided at the ceremony and paid tribute to the temple-goers whose faithfulness led to the decision to build Utah's ninth temple. President Thomas S. Monson and Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin also spoke at the ceremony. The story begins on page 3.
