The temperature in Salt Lake City climbed into the 80s Sunday afternoon, and that warmth was keenly felt by conference-goers in the Tabernacle and enjoyed by those relaxing on the grounds of Temple Square.
Midway through the session, President Gordon B. Hinckley, who conducted, evoked laughter as he referred to the heat and quipped: "I know it's very warm; we're sorry. But it's not as warm as it's going to be if you don't repent."
The warmth did not detract from the spirit of the session, which was powerfully uplifting.
Stirring, partial a cappella, renditions of "Come, Rejoice" and "Let Zion in Her Beauty Rise" by the Tabernacle Choir launched the session on an invigorating note. "Let Us All Press On" was the intermediate congregational hymn. And the congregation joined the choir for the final verse of "We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet," in closing.
Prayers were offered by Elder Jack H Goaslind and Elder Sam K. Shimabukuro of the Seventy.
