About 1,100 people from the Salt Lake City area gathered Jan. 30 for a Doctrine and Covenants Symposium at the LDS institute of religion adjacent to the University of Utah.
Participants listened to 11 speakers give talks on topics ranging from Church history to Church doctrines. The speakers were representatives of the Church Educational System, of Church headquarters and of the faculty at BYU.Frank Santiago, director of CES Continuing Education for Northern Utah, said the purpose of the symposium was to offer members an "opportunity for a day of study with Doctrine and Covenants scholars, to motivate them to continue their study of the scriptures and to motivate them in this year's Sunday School course of study."
Similar Doctrine and Covenants symposiums were held in January in Ogden and Logan, Utah.
