Leaders called for visitors centers, historic sites

Eleven directors of Church visitors centers or historic sites have been called by the First Presidency. The new directors and their wives are beginning their service after having been trained at the Missionary Training Center in February.

In addition, Reed M. Broadbent, director of the New York City Visitors Center until it closed on Feb. 1, has been transferred. The centers and their directors are:Hawaii Temple Visitors Center: Mark L. Angus, 65, is a former president of the Connecticut Hartford Mission. He has served as regional representative, stake president twice, high councilor and bishop. He is a retired school district administrator. He and his wife, Marilyn Wilcox Angus, are members of the Lakeview Ward, Roy Utah Central Stake.

Independence (Mo.) Visitors Center: Clemont Bishop, 61, a school district administrator, has served as high councilor, bishop, high priests group leader, and temple worker. He is a retired captain in the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife, Stella Yvonne Berrett Bishop, are members of the Willow Canyon 1st Ward, Sandy Utah East Stake.

Arizona Temple Visitors Center: Reed M. Broadbent, 78, a retired Logan, Utah, physician and former mission president, and his wife, Maude Bentley Broadbent, previously served at the New York City Visitors Center. The facilities at the previous visitors center are now used as a family history center.

Nauvoo (Ill.) Visitors Center: Arthur W. Elrey Jr., 67, is former president of the Nigeria Aba and Oklahoma Tulsa missions. He has served as regional representative, stake president and patriarch. He is a retired administrator of a mental health center. He and his wife, Glenalyn Marshall Elrey, are members of the Bonanza Ward, Tucson Arizona Rincon Stake.

Mexico City Temple Visitors Center: Grant C. Fausett, 62, a patriarch, is a former president of the Argentina Buenos Aires Mission and has served as stake president's counselor, high councilor and bishop. He is owner of a mortuary. He and his wife, Betty Maurine Shaw Fausett, are members of the Carbonville 1st Ward, Helper Utah Stake.

San Diego (Calif.) Visitors Center: Bob M. Harman, 61, former counselor in two stake presidencies, has served as bishop and stake Young Men president, and is presently a stake missionary. He is self-employed as a farmer. He and his wife, Twila Doone Ivie Harman, are members of the Acequia 2nd Ward, Rupert Idaho Stake.

Kirtland (Ohio) Visitors Center: Adrian H. Heaton, 62, counselor in a stake mission presidency, has served as financial secretary of the Utah Salt Lake Mission and as bishop. He is a retired auditor of a power company. He and his wife, Helen Shuman Heaton, are members of the Millcreek 1st Ward, Salt Lake Millcreek Stake.

Cove Fort (Utah) Visitors Center: Carvel G. Jackson, 65, a retired coach from Mesa (Ariz.) Community College, has served as high councilor and bishop, and he and his wife, Lois Norris Jackson, were among the early missionaries to Guyana in South America. They are members of the Mesa 25th Ward, Mesa Arizona Maricopa Stake.

Washington Temple Visitors Center: Spencer F. Jenson, 67, former president of the Sweden Goteborg Mission, has been a counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor and bishop. He is an insurance agency owner and partner in an investment company. He and his wife, Joyce Love Jenson, are members of the Parleys 6th Ward, Salt Lake Parleys Stake.

St. George Temple (Utah) Visitors Center: Dixie L. Leavitt, 63, is a former president of the England Leeds Mission, and served as high councilor and bishop's counselor. He is former president and chairman of an insurance firm. He and his wife, Phyllis Anne Okerlund Leavitt, are members of the Cedar 9th Ward, Cedar City Utah West Stake. They are parents of Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt.

Temple Square (Salt Lake City, Utah): Joseph M. McPhie, 71, retired Missionary Department operations director, is a former regional representative and president of the Australia Sydney and Virginia Roanoke missions, stake president and bishop. He is a retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife, Ruth Buehner McPhie, are members of the Holladay 21st Ward, Salt Lake Holladay South Stake.

Joseph Smith Memorial (Vermont): Robert M Mills, 69, former director of LDS Church Relationships, Boy Scouts of America, has been a stake president, stake president's counselor, high councilor and bishop. He and his wife, Donna Lou Homer Mills, are members of the Brookstone Ward, Salt Lake Cottonwood Stake.
