New mission presidencies

The First Presidency has announced the call of eight more mission presidents. The new presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Those called are:

H. Erwin Birnbaumer, 56, to serve in the Bolivia La Paz Mission; Primo de Mayo Ward, Santa Cruz Bolivia Stake; regional representative, former mission president's counselor, stake president and counselor, district president's counselor, and branch clerk; Church Educational System coordinator; born in Bregenz, Austria, a son of Karl and Margarita Hofer Birnbaumer; married Hortencia Cavero B., five children. She is a Primary president, former Relief Society president and secretary, and seminary teacher; born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, a daughter of Rafael and Marcelina Balderrama Cavero.

Robert W. Blair, 62, Latvia Riga Mission; Oak Hills 2nd Ward, Provo Utah Oak Hills Stake; regional volunteer service coordinator for state hospital and high priests group instructor, former high councilor, elders quorum president, Young Men president, Aaronic priesthood adviser, and Sunday School president's counselor; served in Helsinki Finland Mission, 1950-53; earned bachelor's and master's degrees from BYU, doctorate from Indiana University; BYU professor; born in Santa Barbara, Calif., a son of Wallace and Marguerite Green Blair; married Julia Groberg, eight children. She is regional service coordinator for state hospital, former Relief Society homemaking leader, Primary president's counselor, Young Women adviser, Sunday School teacher, and nursery leader; earned bachelor's degree from BYU, did graduate work at Indiana University; part-time teacher at BYU; born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a daughter of Delbert V. and Jennie Holbrook Groberg.

Keith Crockett, 59, Argentina Buenos Aires South Mission; Pima 1st Ward, Pima Arizona Stake; stake family record extraction coordinator, former stake president and counselor, and high councilor; served in Uruguay Mission, 1954-56; earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Arizona and doctorate from Northern Arizona University; Thatcher (Ariz.) Institute director; born in Pima, Ariz., a son of Wilford Woodruff III and Jacy Boggs Crockett; married Kathleen McBride, six children. She is a Primary teacher and ward organist, former stake Relief Society president's counselor and board member, Young Women president and adviser, and nursery leader; earned bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona; reading teacher; born in Safford, Ariz., a daughter of Herald Rexal and Lydia Fay Nelson McBride.

Donnell W. Hunter, 62, Mexico Veracruz Mission; Rexburg 10th Ward, Rexburg Idaho East Stake; temple sealer, former high councilor, stake missionary, bishop's counselor, ward executive secretary, high priests group leader, and Young Men president, served in Mexican Mission, 1949-52; earned bachelor's degree from Ricks College and master's degrees from Utah State University and the University of Montana; English teacher at Ricks College; born in Rigby, Idaho, a son of William Wallace and Bertha O'Donnell Hunter; married Nita Deon Kearsley, eight children. She is a temple officiator and Cub Scout advancement chairman; former stake and ward Young Women president, stake and ward Relief Society board member, stake and ward Sunday School teacher trainer, Relief Society teacher, Primary president's counselor and teacher, Young Women adviser, and Scout advancement chairman; earned associate degree from Ricks College; registered nurse; born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a daughter of Lorin Preston and Phyllis Mary Hatch Kearsley.

M. Curtis Jensen, 59, Argentina Salta Mission; North Canyon 2nd Ward, Bountiful Utah North Canyon Stake; high priests group leader, former high councilor, stake mission president, bishop and counselor, assistant high priests group leader, and Scoutmaster; served in Central American Mission, 1954-56; earned bachelor's degree from Westminister College; director of confidential services for the Church; born in Virginia, Idaho, a son of Melvon Christian and Christina Olson Jensen; married Jeanine Sax, five children. She is a Young Women adviser, former Relief Society president and teacher, Young Women president and adviser, Primary president and teacher; attended the University of Utah; member service representative for radiology company; born in Eureka, Utah, a daughter of Ernest A. and Ludean Olsen Sax.

Valerio Kikuchi, 39, Brazil Rio de Janeiro Mission; Horto Florestal Ward, Sao Palo Brazil North Stake; stake president, former high councilor, stake Young Men president, bishop and counselor, and elders quorum president; studied business administration at Faculdades Santana and Faculdades Sao Paulo; owner of informational business; born in Brasileira, Brazil, a son of Mitsuru and Ada Guida Kikuchi; married Mercedes Sanchez L., six children. She is a girls camp leader, former Brazil area camp program counselor, stake missionary, Relief Society president and teacher, Young Women president, Sunday School teacher, and seminary teacher; attended Brasilio Machado College; born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a daughter of Pablo Garcia and Juana Bernal Lopez Sanchez.

Lini Lyon To'o, 62, Samoa Apia Mission; Hillary Ward, Auckland New Zealand Tamaki Stake; stake president, former stake patriarch, stake president's counselor, high councilor, stake Sunday School president, stake Young Men president, bishop and counselor; mechanical operator; born in Pesega, Western Samoa, a son of Lau and Uanona To'o; married Sina Josephine Ah Fook, five children. She is a former Relief Society president and counselor, Young Women president, Primary president's counselor, inservice leader and teacher; attended the Church College in Apia, Western Samoa; born in Apia, Western Samoa, a daughter of Chak and Leonia Ah Fook.

C. Erwin Waite, 66, Michigan Lansing Mission; Bakersfield 5th Ward, Bakersfield California Stake; multi-regional welfare agent and Sunday School teacher, former stake patriarch, stake president, high councilor, stake seventies president, stake public relations chairman, bishop, elders quorum president, and seminary teacher; served with wife in Sierra Leone Africa Mission, 1988-89; earned bachelor's degree from Utah State University and master's degree from the University of Southern California; retired school superintendent; born in Bunkerville, Nev., a son of Jesse LeRoy and Martha Lucina Bowman Waite; married Colleen Hughes, four children. She is a Relief Society in-service leader, former stake Relief Society president's counselor and board member, stake Young Women president, stake Primary president, ward Relief Society president, counselor, and teacher; served with husband in Sierra Leone Africa Mission, 1988-89; attended Bakersfield Community College; born in Mesquite, Nev., a daughter of James Elmer and Mary Emily Abbott Hughes.
