New mission presidents

The First Presidency has announced the calls of eight more mission presidents. The new presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Those called are:

Homero S. Amato, 44, called as president of the Brazil Salvador Mission; Jardim da Saude Ward, Sao Paulo Brazil West Stake; regional welfare agent, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, stake mission president, bishop, and elders quorum president; served in Brazil South Mission, 1970-72; earned business administration degree in Sao Paulo and MBA at BYU; executive vice president of recruitment and counsulting company; born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a son of Francisco Junior and Eulalia Salvador Amato; married Sandra Puerta, five children. She is a stake Young Women president, former Relief Society president, counselor and teacher, Primary president and teacher, and Jr. Sunday School coordinator; served in Uruguay-Paraguay Mission, 1969-71; born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a daughter of Jose Benjamin and Diva Staniscia Puerta.Modesto M. Amistad Jr., 40, Philippines Davao Mission; Tuguegarao 1st Ward, Tuguegarao Philippines Stake; stake president, former stake president's counselor, Sunday School president and teacher; earned bachelor's degree from Cagayan Teachers College and master's degree from St. Paul University of Tuguegarao; Church Educational System coordinator; born in Tuguegarao, Philippines, a son of Modesto Reogia and Victoria Mapagu Amistad; married Laura Moreno Donato, four children. She is a stake Relief Society president's counselor, former stake Relief Society president and counselor, district Relief Society president's counselor, branch Relief Society president and teacher; earned bachelor's degree from Cagayan Teachers College and master's degree from St. Paul University of Tuguegarao; chief of division for Land Bank; born in Tuguegarao, Philippines, a daughter of Angel Sumabat and Lilia Battung Moreno Donato.

John F. Charles, 48, Germany Munich Mission; Dornbirn Ward, Zurich Switzerland Stake; stake president's counselor, former high councilor, bishop, seventies president, ward mission leader, elders quorum president and counselor, German instructor at Missionary Training Center, and seminary teacher; served in Vienna Austria Mission, 1965-67; earned bachelor's degree from BYU and juris doctorate from the University of California at Davis; born in Alhambra, Calif., a son of M. Jean and Delpha G. Pruhs Charles; married Angelika Maria Woess, seven children. She is a Young Women president, former Relief Society president and teacher, Primary president's counselor and teacher, Young Women adviser, and Sunday School teacher; attended BYU; born in Linz, Austria, a daughter of Franz and Anna Pertlwieser Woess.

Eugene H. Findlay, 61, Texas Houston Mission; South Jordan 8th Ward, South Jordan Utah Stake; stake name extractor, former mission president's counselor, stake president's counselor, high councilor, and bishop; served in Eastern States Mission, 1951-53; earned bachelor's degree from BYU and master's degree from Arizona State University; executive director for the Utah Department of Transportation; born in Bloomington, Idaho, a son of Ralph and Lillian Farner Findlay; married Lola Louise Hartley, seven children. She is a ward librarian and volunteer sales clerk at the Jordan River Temple garment center, former Jordan River Temple receptionist, Relief Society president's counselor and teacher, Primary president, teacher, and organist, Young Women adviser, and Jr. Sunday School coordinator; attended BYU; born in Lethbridge, Alberta, a daughter of William Russell and Malinda Oler Hartley.

Von G. Packard, 41, Chile Santiago North Mission; Heritage Oaks Ward, Los Altos California Stake; deacons quorum adviser, former regional representative's executive secretary, high councilor, bishop, branch president and counselor, and ward mission leader; served in Argentina North Mission, 1970-72; earned bachelor's degree from Stanford University and juris doctorate from BYU; partner in law firm; born in Boise, Idaho, a son of Jay Leander and Florence Henrietta Serracino Packard; married Ann Elizabeth Jones, three children. She is a stake Relief Society president's counselor, former stake Young Women president's counselor, stake Relief Society board member, stake Primary chorister, Relief Society president and counselor, Young

Women president's counselor, and seminary teacher; served in Andean Mission, 1968-70; earned bachelor's degree from BYU; teacher's aide; born in Sandwich, Ill., a daughter of Roger Franklin and Marian Ruth Pierce Jones.

Blair D. Pincock, 57, Argentina Resistencia Mission; Sugar City 6th Ward, Sugar City Idaho Stake; bishop, former high councilor, stake mission president, bishop's counselor, ward clerk, and Varsity Scout leader; served in Central America Mission, 1956-59; earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Utah State University; Ricks College instructor; born in Rexburg, Idaho, a son of Douglas and Reah Dalling Pincock; married Noreen Furness, three children. She is a stake Relief Society board member, former stake Relief Society board member, stake Primary board member, ward Relief Society president and homemaking leader, Young Women president, Primary president's counselor and teacher; earned bachelor's degree from Utah State University; born in Teton, Idaho, a daughter of Floyd and Gladys Bessie Birch Furness.

Jerry C. Roundy, 61, California Sacramento Mission; Rexburg 16th Ward, Rexburg Idaho East Stake; high priests teacher, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop, elders quorum president, high priests teacher, teachers quorum adviser, and Sunday School teacher; served in Eastern States Mission, 1954-56; earned bachelor's and master's degrees and doctorate from BYU; religion instructor at Ricks College; born in Escalante, Utah, a son of Wallace Napoleon and Ella Mae Griffin Roundy. He and his first wife, Colleen Marrott, had four children. After she died, he married Sherree Schow Spencer, widow of Lael Alvey Spencer and mother of three children. She is a former Relief Society president's counselor and teacher, Young Women president, and Primary president; born in Escalante, Utah, a daughter of Quentin and Helen Bailey Schow.

Jerald C. Sherwood, 61, Spain Bilbao Mission; Rexburg 20th (Spanish) Branch, Rexburg Idaho Stake; ward executive secretary and assistant ward clerk, and Primary teacher, former temple sealer and ordinance worker, high councilor, assistant stake clerk, and bishop; served in West German Mission, 1954-56; earned bachelor's degree from Utah State University; assistant dean of students and international student adviser at Ricks College; born in White Pine, Nev., a son of Ernest Clark and Cecil Florence Carstensen Sherwood; married Mona J. Park, five children. She is a ward magazine representative and temple ordinance worker; former temple typist, Relief Society teacher, and nursery leader; served as stake missionary, 1955-57; attended Ricks College and BYU-Hawaii; secretary/receptionist; born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a daughter of Delbert LeRoy and Martha Elizabeth Hammon Park.
