Priesthood leaders are reminded that pairing husbands and wives for home teaching is a selective exception to the general policy of having two priesthood brethren assigned as partners (see Melchizedek Priesthood Leadership Handbook, [31184], page 5). Assigning husbands and wives together should be done only in special circumstances and with the approval of the bishop.
Bishops should ensure that all teachers and priests of the Aaronic Priesthood are given the opportunity to serve as junior companions in home teaching assignments. Furthermore, these young men should be encouraged to participate actively in the visits by helping to make the appointments and appropriately taking part in the lessons. Prospective elders should also be encouraged to participate in home teaching.- Bulletin, 1993-1
