The following principles guide the Gospel Literacy effort:
Reliance upon the Spirit of the Lord. As people experience the joy of hearing and reading the word of God, the Spirit can powerfully motivate them to read the scriptures.Reliance on Church welfare principles. The Gospel Literacy effort should follow the principles of Church welfare (see Providing in the Lord's Way: A Leader's Guide to Welfare [32296T).
Reliance on Individual Responsibility. Individuals should identify and help meet their own spiritual and literacy needs.
Reliance on Family Responsibility and Involvement. Home is the first and most important learning place. Adults and children should read and write together and encourage one another.
