Official policies and announcements

It is not appropriate for local priesthood leaders to establish a minimum age for a candidate to receive a patriarchal blessing. Bishops and stake presidents are reminded of this policy regarding patriarchal blessings: "Bishops should issue recommends for patriarchal blessings only to those who are old enough and have been in the Church long enough to appreciate the sacred, prophetic nature of the blessing. A person should be mature enough to understand its meaning and importance. Young members should be old enough to understand, yet young enough that many of the important decisions in life are still ahead. New converts should become acquainted with the doctrines of the Church before receiving a patriarchal blessing." (General Handbook of Instructions, p. 5-5.)
