"And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them." - 1 Ne. 3:7.
Many years ago, before the Church's consolidated meeting schedule, I was busy most of each Sunday attending Church with my teenage children. My non-member husband didn't participate. One Sunday after I had been at Church most of the day, my husband said: "You are down at that place the whole time. Why can't you stay home with me for at least part of Sunday?"Wishing to keep peace at home, I considered his request, and for a period of time I sent the children to Church without me. However, I did not feel this was a good solution as I did not feel I was setting a good example for my family.
While reading the Book of Mormon one day this scripture leaped out at me. I felt strongly that I should tell my husband that I needed to be at Church on Sundays.
I was prayerful about saying the right words but to my surprise my husband was most amenable and said to do whatever I wanted to do.
Recently we celebrated 45 years of a very good marriage. My husband is a fine man. For the last six years he has been attending Church with me and I have hopes that one day he will join the Church. The Lord truly answered my prayers and prepared the way for me to keep His commandments.
