LDS film 'spot' earns 1994 Gabriel Award

"The Dance," a Church-produced public service announcement, was named winner of the 1994 Gabriel Award for Public Service by the National Catholic Association of Broadcasters and Communicators (UNDA-USA).

The Gabriel Award recognizes broadcast work from throughout the country that acclaims a value-centered view of society and humanity. The awards ceremony will be Nov. 11 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City, Calif."The Dance" was written and produced by Church-owned Bonneville Communications as part of the continuing Homefront series. The spot teaches children that who they are - not what others want them to be - is acceptable.

Filmed in Chicago, the spot features a 13-year-old boy facing rejection at his first school dance. The boy comes to realize, as the tag states, "If at first you don't succeed, you're pretty normal."
