Sunday School presidency

Elder Charles Didier of the Presidency of Seventy was sustained as Sunday School general president during the Saturday morning session. Also sustained were Elder J Ballard Washburn and Elder F. Burton Howard, first and second counselors, respectively.

Released as Sunday School general president was Elder Merlin R. Lybbert and as second counselor, Elder Ronald E. Poelman. Elder Clinton L. Cutler was serving as first counselor at the time of his death on April 9, 1994. Elder Lybbert, also released as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy, is currently serving as president of the Alberta Temple. Elder Poelman, a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy, is second counselor in the Utah South Area presidency.Elder Didier, executive director of the Priesthood Department, was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy on Oct. 3, 1975. He has served as president of the South America North and the North America Southwest areas. Before his call as a General Authority, he was president of the French/Switzerland Mission and a regional representative. He is a convert to the Church, having been baptized in 1957. He and his wife, Lucie Lodomez Didier, have two children.

Elder Washburn, first counselor in the Utah North area presidency, was sustained to the Second Quorum of the Seventy on March 31, 1990. He is former president of the Arizona Phoenix Mission, regional representative, stake president and bishop's counselor. He and his wife, Barbara Harries Washburn, have 10 children.

Elder Howard, first counselor in the North America Southeast Area presidency, was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy on Sept. 30, 1978. He has been president of the Mexico South, Mexico, North America Northeast and South America North areas. Prior to his call as a General Authority, he was president of the Uruguay Montevideo Mission, a stake president and a bishop. He and his wife, Caroline Heise Howard, are parent of five children.
