In a historic solemn assembly, members of the First Presidency sustain themselves Saturday morning, Oct. 1. President Howard W. Hunter was sustained as the 14th president of the Church, along with his counselors, President Gordon B. Hinckley and President Thomas S. Monson.
President Hunter, pictured in an artfully composed double exposure, delivers his first general conference address as president of the Church. He called upon all members to follow more closely in the Master's footsteps, and encouraged them to study and follow the counsel of the General Authorities, whose addresses are summarized in this special conference issue.
