Church News: Question of the week

Although 10 stakes had been organized during Joseph Smith's lifetime, only two remained at the time of his martyrdom in 1844. In addition to the Nauvoo stake, what was the other stake?

Answer:

In addition to the Nauvoo Stake, the other stake existing at the time of Joseph Smith's martyrdom in 1844 was the lima Stake in Lima, Ill., a town in Adams County, just over the south line of Hancock County, about 25 miles south of Nauvoo. A number of Saints resided in Lima from 1839 to 1846. The stake was organized on Oct. 22, 1840, but was discontinued by 1845.
