Living by the scriptures

"A new commandant I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." - John 13:34-35."Iam calling to see if you will be home, as I have a gift to deliver to you," said the voice on the phone. A short time later a total stranger came to the door and gave me an envelope which contained a generous check. "Who is this from?" I asked. The stranger told me that the donors wished to remain anonymous. I had been so worried about Christmas presents for my children. I was a single parent with seven children to care for.

"Are we poor?" asked my 5-year-old son, as I stood there with tears streaming down my face. "No," my teenaged son responded, "we're not poor, we have everything we need."

By all standards, we have, indeed, been poor in material things but so rich in family and spiritual blessings. I have spent 11 Christmases as a single parent, and I never cease to marvel at the outpouring of love that so many people have given to me and my family, not just financially, but emotionally and spiritually as well.

My Christmas message to all this year, as I count my many blessings, is that we may all know His love in special ways this Christmas. I could never repay the kindness of so many people, but I know that the Lord can and does reward them with blessings that come from giving from the heart. - Ginger Evans, Salt Lake City, Utah
