Relief Society sisters provide continuing and compassionate watchcare to each other, making themselves aware of one another's needs, circumstances, and challenges. Some of the ways they become aware of needs include visiting or other contacts, praying for guidance, and responding to the promptings of the Spirit. Through giving this loving service, Relief Society sisters provide a support system for individuals and families.
All members of the Relief Society are encouraged to give voluntary compassionate service as they observe needs. If there is a serious or ongoing need, it should be reported to the Relief Society president. Compassionate service may also be assigned by the Relief Society president or, if the service is not confidential, by the compassionate service board member. . . .- Relief Society Handbook, p. 3
