Six new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. They and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Their specific assignments will be announced later. The new mission presidents are:
Gene W. Atkinson, 43, West Weber 3rd Ward, Ogden Utah Weber North Stake; regional welfare agent; former stake president, bishop, Young Men president, elders quorum president and counselor, and assistant Scoutmaster; clinical social worker; received bachelor's degree from what is now Weber State University and master's degree from University of Utah; born in Ogden, Utah, to Keith and Jeanette Ward Atkinson; married Linda Simpson, six children. She is ward Primary president; former counselor in stake Relief Society presidency, counselor in ward Young Women and Primary presidencies, Relief Society spiritual living and social relations teacher, and Primary chorister; attended what is now Weber State University; born in Ogden, Utah, to Eldin Eugene and Josephine Jackman Simpson.John R. Gibson, 48, Rochedale Ward, Brisbane Australia Stake; regional representative; former stake president and counselor, stake executive secretary, high councilor, bishop and counselor, and counselor in ward Young Men presidency; Church Education System coordinator; received teaching certificate from Kelvin Grove Teachers College and bachelor's degree from Utah State University; born in Brisbane, Australia, to Licy Ellen Hilda Marshall Gibson; married Kathryn Esther McVinish, seven children. She is ward Young Women president; former stake Relief Society president, family history librarian, ward Relief Society president, counselor in ward Young Women presidency, Sunday School teacher, nursery leader, Primary teacher; born in Brisbane, Australia, to Angus Alfred and Sarah Faith Jenyns McVinish.
David C. Harvey, 60, Manila 1st Ward, Pleasant Grove Utah Manila Stake; high councilor and temple ordinance worker; former regional representative, stake president, bishop, branch president, elders quorum president, and high priests instructor; farmer and real estate agent; attended what is now Utah Valley State College and BYU; born in Pleasant Grove, Utah, to Leo Paul and Arvilla Sarah Christensen Harvey; married Dixie Renee Timms, eight children. She is a temple ordinance worker and Primary worker; former counselor in Young Women presidency, Young Women adviser, Relief Society board member and compassionate service director, spiritual living teacher, Primary worker, and inservice leader; received bachelor's degree from BYU; born in Roosevelt, Utah, to William Robert and Grace Kisty Nelson Timms.
Richard I. Heaton, 37, Pleasant View 9th Ward, Provo Utah Sharon East Stake; bishop; former branch president, elders quorum president, Young Men president, Young Men counselor, teachers quorum adviser, and ward financial clerk; associate administrative director of training at BYU Missionary Training Center; received doctorate, master's and bachelor's degrees from BYU; born in Glendale, Calif., to Israel "C" and Arline Hardy Heaton; married Valerie Andersen, seven children. Glenn R. Orr, 61, Moore Ward, Oklahoma City Oklahoma South Stake; stake institute director; former counselor in stake presidency, stake mission president, high councilor, bishop and counselor, ward mission leader, Sunday School teacher, Young Men president, Scoutmaster, and Sunday School president; owner of horse training center; received doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Oklahoma State University; born in Tulsa, Okla., to Glenn Gant and Lois Maude Simpson Orr; married Shari Goodburn, four children. Donald H. Steele, 54, North Ogden 22nd Ward, North Ogden Utah Coldwater Stake; Primary teacher; former counselor in mission presidency, counselor in stake presidency, high councilor, and bishop; FBI special agent; received juris doctorate from University of Utah; born in Panguitch, Utah, to Donald Hall and Nina Hatch Steele; married Linda Ann Bishop, six children.
