The term angel means "messenger." Since the Savior is the "messenger of salvation" (D&C 93:8) and the "messenger of the covenant" (Mal. 3:1), the term could apply to Him in that sense, as in Jacob's reference to the "Angel which redeemed me" in Gen. 48:15-16.
