New mission presidents

Six new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. They and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Their specific assignments will be announced later. The new mission presidents are:

Yatyr M. Cesar, 39, Sao Paulo 2nd Ward, Sao Paulo Brazil West Stake; bishop; former counselor in stake presidency, bishop and counselor, and member of the Portuguese scripture review committee; institute director; received bachelor's degree from Luzwell College and master's degree from Sao Paulo University; born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Yatyr Moreira and Maria Thereza Martins Cesar; married Angela Machado, four children. She is stake Young Women president; former stake Relief Society president, stake Young Women president, counselor in ward Relief Society presidency, and seminary teacher; born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Paulo Dias and Maria Gioconda Machado.Larry B. Hanks, 53, Union 1st Ward, Sandy Utah Cottonwood Creek Stake; counselor in stake presidency; former high councilor, stake executive secretary, bishop, ward Young Men president, and Sunday School teacher; insurance general agent; received bachelor's degree from BYU and master's degree from the American College; born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Victor Franklin and Marjorie Burke Hanks; married Georgia Gammett, seven children. She is a Sunday School teacher; former stake Relief Society president, Relief Society teacher, Young Women and Primary teacher, and Cub Scout den leader; attended Ricks College and BYU; born in Challis, Idaho, to Alven Gilbert and June Lucille Cloward Gammett.

William L. Hunter, 68, Heber 1st Ward, Heber City Utah East Stake; recently returned missionary from Nigeria; former high councilor, stake mission president, bishop, high priests group leader and assistant, and Sunday School president; research lab president; received bachelor's degree from California State University/Los Angeles; born in Montello, Nev., to Albert Mendoza and Mary Lindsay Fisher Hunter; married Evelyn Packard, three children. She is a recently returned missionary from Nigeria; former stake missionary, Relief Society president, family history consultant, Primary and Relief Society teacher, activities committee chairman, and music director; attended Weber State College and Citrus College; born in Ogden, Utah, to Ira C. and Doris Evelyn Payne Packard.

Spencer V. Jones, 48, Gallup 2nd Ward, Gallup New Mexico Stake; deacons quorum adviser and assistant Scoutmaster; former high councilor, bishop and counselor, Young Men president, Scoutmaster, and seminary teacher; furniture company owner; received bachelor's degree from BYU; born in Safford, Ariz., to Virgil Worth and Nellie Mae Baker Jones; married Joyce Elizabeth Mathews, three children. She is former stake missionary, Young Women and Relief Society president, seminary teacher, Primary, Relief Society and Young Women teacher; received bachelor's degree from BYU and master's degree from Western New Mexico University; born in Gallup, N.M., to James Edwin and Dorothy Taylor Mathews.

C. Douglas Lyons, 38, Parkview Ward, Murray Utah Parkway Stake; teachers quorum adviser and Varsity coach; former stake Young Men president, bishop, high priests group secretary, counselor in ward Young Men presidency, teachers quorum adviser, Blazer teacher, and Weblos den leader; budget analyst for the Church; received bachelor's degree from BYU; born in Spartanburg, S.C., to Owen and Nannie Vanell Vaughn Lyons; married Sharon Lindsay, five children. She is Relief Society spiritual living teacher; former Relief Society president and counselor, Young Women president, Primary president and counselor, and nursery leader; received bachelor's degree from BYU; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Richard Powell and Marian Bangerter Lindsay.

Garry K. Moore, 52, Mueller Park 4th Ward, Bountiful Utah Mueller Park Stake; Sunday School teacher; former counselor in stake presidency, high councilor, bishop and counselor, high priests group leader, and elders quorum president; zone administrator for Church Educational System; received bachelor's and master's degrees from BYU and doctorate from the University of Southern California; born in Alamosa, Colo., to Keith Smith and Verlene Reed Paquin Moore; married LaNell Lines, nine children. She is a counselor in the stake Young Women presidency; former stake Primary music leader, counselor in stake Relief Society presidency, Young Women and Primary president, seminary teacher, Laurel and Mia Maid adviser, Primary chorister, Relief Society and Sunday School teacher, Junior Sunday School coordinator, and Cub Scout den leader; attended BYU; born in Phoenix, Ariz., to Wilton Henry and Theda Butler Lines.
