Shortly after being called to the Council of the Twelve in October 1943, Elder Ezra Taft Benson was named a member of the National Committee on Rural Scouting by the Boy Scouts of America. The Rural Scouting committee was an advisory and policy-making committee having to deal with the Boy Scouts in the rural and small town areas of the United States.
