New callings: First Quorum of the Seventy

After serving three years in the Second Quorum of the Seventy, Elder Cree-L Kofford was sustained Saturday afternoon as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy.

Elder Kofford, 60, was called as a General Authority in April 1991, and is currently president of the North America Northeast Area of the Church.A native of Santaquin, Utah, he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah, and received his juris doctorate in 1961 from the University of Southern California Law School. He had a private law practice in Southern California until his call to full-time Church service.

Elder Kofford has also served as a bishop, stake president, regional representative, and president of the New York New York Mission.

He and his wife, Ila, are the parents of five children.
