"The land of Spain has been opened for the preaching of the Gospel," reported the June 14, 1969, issue of the Church News. Elder Marion G. Romney, then of the Council of the Twelve, was reported to have presided over the May 20 dedication and to have given the dedicatory prayer.
During the service, which was held on a wooded hilltop overlooking Madrid, Elder Romney spoke briefly about the tremendous potential of gospel teaching in Spain.
The Church News reported: "He mentioned that the dedication represented a `great day and the opening of an entirely new era in Spain permitting things to happen that could not possibly occur without the blessings of the gospel.'
"The fact that Paul of Tarsus visited the land of Spain, and that Spain was the point of origin for the voyage of Christopher Columbus also was mentioned.
"Elder Romney recalled that Columbus' discovery of the new world facilitated the restoration of the gospel. He also recalled that it was prophesied 400 years before the birth of the Savior that such discovery would hasten restoration of Christ's Church on earth."

"The greatest miracles I see today are not necessarily the healing of sick bodies, but the greatest miracles I see are the healing of sick souls . . . . We are reaching out to all such, because they are precious in the sight of the Lord." - President Harold B. Lee, in an address delivered April 8, 1973, in the Tabernacle on Temple Square.
