President Gordon B. Hinckley received Scouting's highest national award, the Silver Buffalo, May 27 during Boy Scouts of America national meetings here.
President Hinckley, first counselor in the First Presidency, was cited for his many years of positive influence on youth and for the exemplary service he has rendered in various Church leadership positions.President Thomas S. Monson, second counselor in the First Presidency and a member of the BSA National Executive Board, escorted President Hinckley to the podium for the award presentation. Other Church leaders present for the occasion included members of the Young Men and Primary general presidencies, who also were involved in the national meetings as members of various national Scouting committees.
President Hinckley joins President Ezra Taft Benson, President Monson and several other Church leaders in being honored with the national award.
Church member J. Willard Marriott Jr. of the Potomac South Ward, Washington D.C. Stake, also was presented the Silver Buffalo during the May 27 ceremony.
