"The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body, yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame." - Alma 40:23.
Painful joints were very much on my mind when I read this scripture. I have suffered from osteoarthritis for more than six years in both knees. Sometimes it is just a little painful to walk, and sometimes it is unbearable.I was having a particularly difficult day and was feeling depressed and sorry for myself. The rest of my body is so healthy and I have so much energy that this handicap with walking frustrated me terribly this day. I slung myself into the armchair with tears of self-pity stinging my eyes and breathed a prayer to my Heavenly Father to help me.
Immediately I felt I should read the Book of Mormon that was beside the chair. It fell open to the book of Alma and my eyes lighted on this scripture.
I had read this passage many times before, but it had never had so much meaning for me as it did this day.
My Heavenly Father was personally saying to me, "Your pain is only for a small moment." I began to see things in an eternal perspective, when my body shall be perfect and all mortal pains and aches will be done away.
A great peace and calm filled me, and I have never had a bad day since. Whenever I do have the pain, I remember the lesson of this scripture.
