When my daughter, Shirley, was almost 8 years old, she felt the sudden urge to take a bath ever day. As an excuse, she said that she wanted to practice holding her breath under water.
Every day as she bathed and held her breath, I had to count the seconds. Once she made it to 23 seconds and was proud of herself. After a while, my patience wore thin, and I told her she could count herself.
She responded in a concerned voice, "Mom, I don't want to drown while they say the prayer when I get baptized."
She had thought all along that she had to stay under water during the prayer. We were able to lay her concerns to rest and stop our underwater counting sessions in the bathtub. - Hilde P. Mueller, Salt Lake City, Utah
