Guam was hit extra hard with power rationing after Typhoon Brian, our third typhoon that season. We all found nothing funny in having only a few hours of power a day.
During this time, the evening session of our district conference was abruptly interrupted with no power. We all sat in total darkness. There were several disgruntled moans, but with a few flashlights passed forward, the conference resumed.
The only change was that the congregation would sing one verse of the intermediate hymn by memory. The tension quickly dissolved and was replaced with several chuckles as the strains of "Improve the Shining Moments" pierced the darkness.
