Youth pedal to Antelope Island for conference

Peddling their way to a memorable conference, youth from the Centerville Utah Canyon View Stake enjoyed three days of activities on Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake Aug. 11-13.

The youth conference began with a 27-mile bike ride from the stake center to Antelope Island. Once there, the bikers went on a hayride to the Utah State Park at the old Mormon Ranch where they spent three days and two nights."It was something different than we've ever done before and it was close to home," said Bishop Blake M. Cloward of the Centerville 9th Ward. He and some other bishops joined the approximately 260 youth ages 14 and up on the bike hike. "The kids enjoyed it. The bike ride was really fun."

After arriving at the island Aug. 11, the young people jumped onto hay wagons for the 12-mile ride to the ranch. The first activity was a service project; the group cleaned the state park area of weeds and debris. That evening, stake Pres. Bruce Pitt spoke at a fireside.

Five seminary teachers conducted seminars on gospel subjects Aug. 12. A western line dance capped the day's activities. After breakfast Aug. 13, the group rode home - in automobiles - while the bikes were trucked back to Centerville.
