Chronology of important events, dates while Pres. Hunter served as prophet

Since becoming president of the Church on June 5, 1994, President Howard W. Hunter carried out a busy schedule. Below are some of the highlights of his presidency:

June 5, 1994 - Set apart and ordained in the Salt Lake Temple as 14th president of the Church.

June 6, 1994 - Encouraged members to live more Christlike lives and increase temple attendance at a news briefing in the Church Administration Building.

June 21, 1994 - Addressed 92 new mission presidents at the annual Mission Presidents Seminar in Provo, Utah. Also greeted 2,245 missionaries at the Missionary Training Center.

June 23, 1994 - Announced the calling of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland to the Council of the Twelve.

June 26, 1994 - Spoke at three services in Nauvoo and Carthage, Ill., commemorating the 150th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

July 23, 1994 - Spoke at a program commemorating the centennial of the Salt Lake City and County Building.

Aug. 8-16, 1994 - Visited Switzerland, spoke at the Lausanne Ward, Geneva Switzerland Stake.

Sept. 13, 1994 - Was keynote speaker at the first-ever satellite address to full-time missionaries from the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah.

Sept 18, 1994 - Spoke to some 13,000 members at a regional conference in Tucson, Ariz.

Sept. 24, 1994 - Spoke at the annual General Relief Society Meeting in the Tabernacle on Temple Square.

Oct. 1, 1994 - Sustained as prophet and president of the Church in general conference during historic solemn assembly.

Oct. 4, 1994 - Was a guest at the opening of a children's exhibit about Jesus at the Museum of Church History and Art in Salt Lake City.

Oct. 9, 1994 - Dedicated the Orlando Florida Temple, the Church's 46th temple.

Oct. 15-16, 1994 - Presided at a conference of the Pasadena California Stake, where he once served as president.

Nov. 13, 1994 - Spoke at the 100th anniversary commemoration of the Genealogical Society of Utah, now the Church Family History Department. During the program in the Tabernacle on Temple Square, President Hunter was honored for his service as president of the Genealogical Society from 1964-1972 and for his birthday coming up the next day.

Nov. 14, 1994 - Celebrated his 87th birthday, engaged in "a typical day at the office with lots of work."

Nov. 18, 1994 - Installed Eric B. Shumway as president of BYU Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii.

Nov. 28, 1994 - Attended a reception in the Relief Society Building commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Young Women.

Dec. 4, 1994 - Spoke at the annual First Presidency Christmas Devotional in the Tabernacle.

Dec. 11, 1994 - Presided at the creation of the Church's 2,000th stake in Mexico City, Mexico, and participated in the Mexico City Temple Christmas Lighting Ceremony.

Jan. 8, 1995 - Dedicated the Bountiful Utah Temple, the Church's 47th temple.
