Royal and Alice Cheney

Married 70 years ago on Aug. 30, 1926, in Twin Falls, Idaho, and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Oregon in 1936 where he worked in the shipyards painting battleships. They later lived in several communities in Utah and Idaho as he worked as a professional painter. Both held many positions in the Church, being active in family history. She was captain of the Granger Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and was a hospital volunteer who made some 2,600 hand puppets for children in Rupert, Idaho. Members of the Heyburn 2nd Ward, Rupert Idaho West Stake. Parents of four children, they have 18 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Ferrin and Martha Whitaker

"Martha is still the prettiest girl around."

Ferrin Whitaker

Married 70 years ago on Aug. 19, 1926, in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Chicago, Ill., where he studied at the Chicago Art Institute. They helped establish the North Shore Branch. He became art director for Montgomery Ward department store chain and later started a successful advertising art studio in Chicago. After his retirement in the 1950s, they came to Utah and remodeled an old resort in Midway, renaming it the Homestead, now a popular resort. He has also painted pictures that are in public and private collections around the country. Their son, William, is also a prominent artist. She has held a variety of positions in the Sunday School, Relief Society and YWMIA. He has also held many positions. Members of the Riverside Ward, Provo Utah Edgemont Stake. Parents of four children, they have 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
