New mission presidents

Eight more mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. The new mission presidents and their assignments are:

Byron R. Christensen, 62, Canada Halifax Mission; Vancouver 3rd Ward, Vancouver Washington West Stake; temple sealer; former stake president and counselor, high councilor, bishop, ward mission leader, seminary and Sunday School teacher; owner of Glass Doctor of Oregon Inc.; attended the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City to Edward Marion and Marie E. Miller Christensen; married Zelma Anderson, five children. She is stake Relief Society president's counselor; former temple ordinance worker, stake missionary, stake representative for social services, ward Primary and Relief Society president; attended Clark College; born in Spring City, Utah, to Lars Kent and Beatrice Faure Acord Anderson.- Lee W. Crayk, 45, Mexico Monterrey South Mission; Willow Creek 9th Ward, Sandy Utah Willow Creek Stake; stake president; former high councilor, stake Young Men president's counselor, bishop and counselor, ward Young Men president, and missionary in the Ecuador Mission; owner of Quality Linen Supply; attended the University of Utah; born in Los Angeles, Calif., to Donald Edward and Marlene Joy Shaw Crayk; married Connie Greenwall, five children. She is ward Laurel adviser; former ward Young Women president, Primary president's counselor, Relief Society teacher, Primary teacher, and Sunday School teacher; born in Salt Lake City to Robert Axel and Ilene Norma Worthington Greenwall.

Carlos A. Godoy, 36, Brazil Belem Mission; Santo Amaro Ward, Sao Paulo Brazil Santo Amaro Stake; welfare agent; former high councilor, bishop, elders quorum president, Young Men president, and missionary in the Brazil Sao Paulo South Mission; South America human resource manager for Dow Corning; received bachelor's degree in economics from Catholic Pontiff University and master's degree in organizational behavior from BYU; born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, to Moacie De and Ivone Poersch Godoy; married Monica Brandao, four children. She is ward Primary president; former ward Young Women president, Primary president's counselor, and Relief Society president's counselor; received bachelor's degree in psychology from Ibirapuera University; born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Reynaldo Soares and Cecilia Sorrentino Brandao.

Michael A. Goodman, 33, Thailand Bangkok Mission; Royal Oaks Ward, Keizer Oregon Stake; high councilor; former bishop's counselor, ward mission leader, elders quorum president, Young Men president, and missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission; Church Educational System coordinator and institute teacher; received bachelor's degree in journalism/public relations from the University of Oregon and master's degree in education information technology from Western Oregon State College; born in Lakewood, Calif., to Harvey Lloyd and Linda Lee Anderson Goodman; married Tiina Kirsi, two children. She is ward Relief Society president's counselor; former stake missionary, ward Primary president's counselor, Laurel adviser, Relief Society and Sunday School secretary, Primary teacher, Relief Society pianist and chorister, and missionary in the Finland Helsinki Mission; born in Lahti, Finland, to Kaarlo Ernesti and Maire Sanelma Hallikas Kirsi.

Tadashi Komatsu, 48, Japan Tokyo North Stake; Sakai Ward, Osaka Japan Sakai Stake; bishop; former stake president and counselor, stake mission president, bishop and counselor, and high priests group leader; Shaklee supervisor; born in Okayama, Japan, to Sheichi and Yoshiko Sakiyama Komatsu; married Aiko Owan, two children. She is a nursery leader; former stake Relief Society president and counselor, stake Young Women president's counselor, stake Primary president's counselor, ward Relief Society president, and Primary teacher; received teaching certificate from Wakayama University; born in Sakai, Japan, to Sekei and Kikue Yogi Owan.

R. Dean Layton, 62, Canada Winnipeg Mission; Centerville 1st Ward, Centerville Utah South Stake; high priests group leader and temple ordinance worker; former stake president, bishop, Young Men president, Sunday School teacher, and missionary in the Southern States Mission; owner of Layton Lighting Co.; attended the University of Utah and BYU; born in Salt Lake City to Willis Hyde and Elma Fullmer Layton; married Elga Jessen, nine children. She is ward Relief Society president's counselor; former stake family history consultant, hostess at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, ward Primary president, Young Women president's counselor, Relief Society teacher, Primary teacher and chorister, and Sunday School secretary; born in Flensburg, Germany, to Karl Christian Nicholaus and Katharine Marie Schwichtenberg Jessen.

O. Don Ostler, 66, Canada Calgary Mission; Monument Park 15th Ward, Salt Lake Monument Park Stake; Sunday School teacher; former regional representative, stake president, high councilor, bishop and counselor, gospel doctrine teacher, high priests group instructor, and assistant high priests group leader; chief executive officer and vice chairman of the board for O.C. Tanner Co.; received bachelor's degree in finance, economics and management from the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City to Frank Leonard and Ada Holmes Jennie Ostler; married Barbara Boyer, six children. She is stake Relief Society president's counselor; former ward Young Women and Primary president, and Relief Society president's counselor; received master's degree in fine arts from the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City to Harold R. and Marian Louise Richards Boyer.

James L. Parkin, 57, England London South Mission; Parleys 3rd Ward, Salt Lake Parleys Stake; priests quorum adviser; former stake president and counselor, high councilor, bishop and counselor, high priests group leader, Scoutmaster, elders quorum president's counselor, and missionary in Sweden; associate vice president for health sciences at the University of Utah; received bachelor's degree in biology and medical degree from the University of Utah, and master's degree in physiology and biophysics from the University of Washington; born in Salt Lake City to Elmer Lamar and Mary Parkin; married Bonnie Dansie, four children. She is second counselor in the general Young Women presidency; former Relief Society general board member, stake Young Women president, ward Relief Society and Primary president, Relief Society teacher, Primary teacher, Sunday School teacher, and Cub Scout den leader; received bachelor's degree in elementary education from Utah State University; born in Murray, Utah, to Jesse H. and Ruth Butikofer Dansie.
