First Presidency calls for Pioneer Heritage Day of service

To help commemorate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Mormon Pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley, the First Presidency has invited "each ward and branch to contribute a minimum of 150 hours of community service where possible. As modern-day beneficiaries of the sacrifices made by pioneers who have gone before, we can show our gratitude by unitedly rendering charitable service to others in our communities."

The First Presidency encouraged priesthood leaders to plan and coordinate local service projects to be completed by or on July 19, which has been designated as the Church's "Pioneer Heritage Service Day." - Church News, Feb. 1, 1997, p. 4.
