Dr. Thomas J. Parmley, educator, research scientist, former Sunday School general board member and the husband of a former Primary general president, died Sept. 15, 1997, at his home in Salt Lake City. He would have been 100 years old on Nov. 2.
During a 50-year career, he taught physics to more than 40,000 University of Utah students and received numerous awards for his dedication to teaching. He was a member of the Sunday School general board from 1957 to 1971 and gave weekly lectures on the relationship between science and religion to departing missionaries at the Salt Lake City Mission Home.As the husband of LaVern W. Parmley, Primary general president from 1951 to 1974, he traveled extensively around the Church. She died in 1980.
A member of the first graduating class of Jordan High School in 1915, he gave the commencement address at the Sandy, Utah, school in 1993.
