Two members of the Presidency of the Seventy - Elder Jack H Goaslind and W. Eugene Hansen - and two members of the First Quorum of the Seventy - James M. Paramore and Ronald E. Poelman - were granted emeritus status Oct. 3.
Three members of the First Quorum of the Seventy were sustained Oct. 3, to serve in the Presidency of the Seventy, replacing Elder Goaslind, Elder Hansen and Elder Monte J. Brough, who is now serving as president of the North America Southeast Area. Sustained Oct. 3 as members of the quorum presidency were Elder D. Todd Christofferson, Elder Marlin K. Jensen and Elder David E. Sorensen. They began serving Aug. 15.Elder Goaslind, also released as Young Men general president, was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy Sept. 30, 1978, at age 50, and served in the Presidency of the Seventy from Oct. 6, 1985, to Aug. 15, 1987. He was called a second time to the Presidency of the Seventy Aug. 15, 1996. He is former president of the Arizona Tempe Mission.
Elder Hansen was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy April 1, 1989, at age 60. He was called to the Presidency of the Seventy Aug. 15, 1993, and sustained Oct. 2, 1993.
Elder Paramore was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy April 2, 1977, at age 48, and to the quorum presidency Aug. 15, 1977, serving until Aug. 15, 1993. He is the former executive secretary to the Council of the Twelve and president of the Franco-Belgian Mission.
Elder Poelman was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy April 1, 1978, at age 49. He served in the Sunday School general presidency from 1979-81 and from 1992-94.
