New mission presidents

Another eight mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Their assignments will be announced later. The new mission presidents are:

Steven Lynn Bates, 51, Manito Ward, Spokane Washington Stake; Young Men president; former stake president and counselor, high councilor, bishop, branch president, and missionary in the Western Canadian Mission; dentist; received bachelor's degree in zoology from Washington State University and doctorate in dental surgery from the University of Washington; born in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, to Charles Ray and Erma Irene Bird Bates; married Julia Ann Anglesey, seven children. She is a counselor in the Relief Society presidency; former counselor in stake Primary presidency, stake family history specialist, counselor in Primary presidency, Relief Society and Primary teacher, Cub Scout and nursery leader; attended BYU; born in Rigby, Idaho, to Wendell Owen and Nada Elizabeth Packer Anglesey.- Roger W. Doxey, 63, Monument Park 15th Ward, Salt Lake Monument Park Stake; member of Church hosting committee, regional welfare agent, and temple ordinance worker; former high councilor, stake Young Men president, counselor in bishopric, and missionary in the East Central States Mission; president of Doxey-Hatch Medical Center and secretary of Doxey-Layton Company; received bachelor's degree in business from BYU; born in Salt Lake City to Graham Hayes and Leone Blanche Watson Doxey; married Jewell Ainsworth, five children. She is a member of the Church hosting committee, counselor in Relief Society presidency, and temple ordinance worker; former Relief Society president and counselor, Primary president, counselor in Young Women presidency, Relief Society and Primary teacher, Young Women adviser, Junior Sunday School coordinator, and Young Adult leader; received bachelor's degree in education from the University of Utah; born in Richfield, Utah, to Jack Marel and Irene Miller Ainsworth.

W. Ladd Hollist, 50, Timpanogos 2nd Ward, Orem Utah North Stake; branch president at Provo Missionary Training Center; former stake president and counselor, stake executive secretary, bishop, and missionary in Brazil; professor at BYU; received bachelor's degree in political science from Utah State University, and master's degree and doctorate in international relations from the University of Denver; born in Denver, Colo., to William "D" Jr. and Shirley Rosina Grace Penton Hollist; married Marleen Galvez, three children. She is serving with her husband in a branch at the Provo Missionary Training Center; former stake Young Women secretary, stake Primary secretary, Relief Society president, Young Women president and counselor, and Primary teacher; attended Utah State University and Stevens Henager College; born in Ogden, Utah, to Freddie Jr. and Gayla Brown Galvez.

Richard T. Jackson, 50, Rock Canyon Ward, Provo Utah Edgemont South Stake; former counselor in stake presidency, high councilor, bishop and counselor, Young Men president, and missionary in Brazil; orthopedic surgeon; studied pre-med at BYU, and received doctorate in medicine and degree in orthopedic surgery from the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City to Elvon Gee and Mary Ellen Taylor Jackson; married Marianne Hansen, seven children. She is Laurel adviser; former counselor in stake Young Women presidency, Young Women president, counselor in Primary presidency, and Primary chorister; received bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City to Charles Nyberg and Lois Ivory Hansen.

James R. Michie, 60, Ensign 1st Ward, Salt Lake Ensign Stake; high councilor; former high councilor, stake missionary, bishop and counselor, high priests group leader, Sunday School teacher, and Cub Scout pack master; president of Thompson Michie Associates Inc.; received bachelor's degree in economics from Yale University and attended Stanford Business School; born in Salt Lake City to Lambert Moroni and Mae Christensen Michie; married Nanette Smith, five children. She is a Relief Society teacher; former stake Primary chorister, Primary president, counselor in Relief Society presidency, Young Women secretary, Relief Society homemaking leader and chorister; received bachelor's degree in English from the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City to Lochlin James and Bernice Gee Smith.

Kent F. Richards, 52, Ensign 6th Ward, Salt Lake Ensign Stake; Sunday School teacher, former counselor in stake presidency, high councilor, stake missionary, bishop and counselor, high priests group leader, elders quorum president and counselor, Young Men president, priests and deacons quorums adviser, Scoutmaster, and missionary in Veracruz, Mexico; senior vice president of Intermountain Health Care; received bachelor's degree in medical biology and medical doctorate from the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City to Charles Elliott and Margaret Agnes Farnsworth Richards; married Marsha Gurr, eight children. She is a Sunday School teacher; former stake Relief Society board member, Primary president and counselor, counselor in Relief Society and Young Women presidency, Relief Society teacher, Young Women adviser, Primary and Sunday School teacher; received bachelor's degree in speech and English education from the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City to Kenyon Robb and Gloria Leon Gardiner Gurr.

Douglas F. Tobler, 61, Lindon 3rd Ward, Lindon Utah West Stake; high councilor in the BYU 4th Stake; former counselor in stake presidency, high councilor, bishop, high priests group leader, branch president, Sunday School teacher, and missionary in the Swiss-Austrian Mission; professor of history at BYU; received bachelor's and master's degrees in history from BYU, and doctorate in European history from the University of Kansas; born in Cedar City, Utah, to Donald and Louise Harriet Shoell Tobler; married Carol Noble, four children. She is a stake Relief Society board member in the BYU 4th Stake; former counselor in stake Relief Society, ward Relief Society president and counselor, Young Women president, Primary president's counselor and teacher in Relief Society, Young Women and Primary; received bachelor's degree in business, child development and family relations and humanities from BYU; born in Burley, Idaho, to Francis Newton and Leona Evelyn Petersen Noble.

Salvador C. Villahermosa, 58, Patag Ward, Cagayan De Oro Philippines Stake; Church service missionary in the Philippines Cagayan de Oro Mission; former stake president and counselor, high councilor, counselor in district presidency, branch president, Sunday School and priesthood teacher; retired deputy regional director for the Philippine National Police; born in Oroquieta City, Philippines, to Alejandro Yap and Mercedes Antolin Cejalbo Villahermosa; married Virginia Rebuta, eight children. She is a Church service missionary with her husband; former counselor in stake Relief Society presidency, district Young Women president, Relief Society president and teacher; received bachelor's degree in Spanish from University of the Visayas, and bachelor's degree in history from Southern Capital Colleges; born in Oroquieta City, Philippines, to Germiniano Malison and Rosario Cotales Maglipac Rebuta.
