On the 26th of May, 1848, Brigham Young left Winter Quarters on his second and final journey across the plains to the Salt Lake Valley. He had been part of the vanguard company that arrived in July the year before.
In A Comprehensive History of the Church by B.H. Roberts, the following is quoted from History of Brigham Young, Ms.: "On the 26th I started on my journey to the mountains, leaving my houses, mills and the temporary furniture I had acquired during our sojourn there. This was the fifth time I had left my home and property since I embraced the gospel of Jesus Christ."
Quote from the past
"Inasmuch as we receive the truth, we receive light; and if we receive light, we receive life. If that principle is in us, and it abounds - that is, in the practice of good works, it will be in us as a well of water springing up into everlasting life." - President Heber C. Kimball, first counselor in the First Presidency, from an address given in the Bowery in Salt Lake City, April 19, 1857
