Elder Robert E. Wells, 70, General Authority emeritus, has been called as president of the Santiago Chile Temple, succeeding Pres. Eduardo Ayala. Elder Wells' wife, Helen Walser Wells, will serve as temple matron.
Elder Wells was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1976 and granted emeritus status in 1997. He served as president of the Mexico Monterrey Mission before being called as a General Authority. He received a bachelor's degree from BYU and was head of central purchasing for the Church, and was an international banker in South America. He was born in Las Vegas, Nev., to Robert Stephen and Zella Earl Wells.
Sister Wells is a former stake Young Women president, ward Relief Society president's counselor, dance and drama director and stake missionary. She was born in El Paso, Texas, to Alma W. and Asenath Skousen Walser.
