Elizabeth Fetzer Bates, 90, who wrote the Primary children's songs "Book of Mormon Stories" and "Pioneer Children Sang As They Walked," died Nov. 20, 1999, in Salt Lake City.
She sang in the Tabernacle Choir for a time, was an accompanist to the Church, and, despite being blinded in an accident at age 42, afterwards completed university studies for degrees in music and social work. She was also executive secretary to Utah Gov. Herbert Maw.
