Young Men, Young Women wash statue, clean park

BANGKOK, Thailand — Young men and young women from the Bangkok Thailand Stake recently performed a public service by washing the Rama VI (King Vajivarudh) Statue and platform. During the annual service project, youth also pruned shrubs and cleaned the surrounding garden areas of Lumphini Park.

This year the young people were assisted in this work by employees of Pan Pacific Hotel. The project was approved and supported by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

The statue was sculpted by Professor Silpa Bhirasri and was completed June 7, 1941. King Vajivarudh ruled from 1910 to 1925. He wrote plays, founded newspapers and introduced compulsory education. Young people remember him as the founder of the National Scout Organization of Thailand.
