New mission presidents

Eight new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Their assignments will be announced later. The new mission presidents are:

Lonny R. Gleed, 50, Oakridge 5th Ward, Farmington Utah Oakridge Stake; high councilor in the Salt Lake University 1st Stake; former area presidency secretary, high councilor, bishop, Young Men president, high priests group leader, elders quorum president, and missionary in the Austria Vienna Mission; recorder for the Salt Lake Temple; received bachelor's degree in German literature and master's degree in business from BYU; born in Malad, Idaho, to Wilford Ralph and Gloria Joyce Rees Gleed; married Susan Rife, two children. She is a Sunday School teacher; former stake missionary, ward Young Women president, counselor in Primary and Relief Society presidencies, Relief Society and Primary teacher; counselor at Farmington Jr. High School; received bachelor's degree in elementary education and master's degree in educational psychology from BYU; born in Zenia, Ohio, to Raymond Scott and Ann Dorothy Harman Rife.

Conan P. Grames, 52, Princeton 1st Ward, East Brunswick New Jersey Stake; former counselor in mission presidency, counselor in stake presidency, high councilor, stake Young Men president, stake activities committee chairman, stake M-Men representative, counselor in district presidency, district mission president, chairman of the Diplomatic Relations Committee of New York, bishop and counselor, high priests group leader, elders quorum president, Young Men president, LDSSA president, deacons quorum adviser, seminary teacher, and missionary in the Northern Far East Mission; vice president and senior counsel for Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.; received bachelor's degree in international economics from the University of Utah and juris doctorate from the Harvard Law School; born in Cedar City, Utah, to Lloyd Marion and Ada JaLene Heywood Grames; married Cindy Homer, six children. She is ward music chairman; former district Primary president, ward Relief Society president and counselor, Primary president and counselor, seminary teacher, and Young Women adviser; attended Weber State University and the University of Utah, received bachelor's degree in history from The College of New Jersey; born in Denver, Colo., to Frederick Raymond and Phyllis LeNila Young Homer.

Richard E. Hall, 65, Pasadena 1st Ward, Houston Texas East Stake; regional welfare agent and Sunday School teacher; former counselor in mission presidency, stake president, stake executive secretary, high councilor, institute instructor, bishop and counselor, and elders quorum president; assistant to the director for business management at NASA Johnson Space Center; attended University of Houston and Arizona State University, received bachelor's degree in business marketing from BYU; born in Salt Lake City to George Washington and Mardell Faye King Hall; married Glyn Schmitt, four children. She is stake Primary president; former stake Relief Society president, stake specialist for 11-year old Scouts, ward Relief Society president and counselor, Boy Scouts advancement chairman, nursery leader, Young Women and Primary teacher; attended BYU and San Jacinto Jr. College, received bachelor's degree in education with an art emphasis from the University of Houston; born in Warsaw, Ind., to Nicholas Casper Schmitt and Mary May Clark Schmitt-Groves.

Michael R. Larkins, 48, Summerhaze Ward, Layton Utah Holmes Creek Stake; counselor in stake presidency; former high councilor, stake mission president, bishop, and elders quorum president; partner in Quantum Learning; received bachelor's degree in political science from Weber State University, master's degree in management from BYU, and attended the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City to Clifton James and Virginia Kay Kartchner Larkins; married Deborah McIntire, two children. She is a counselor in ward Relief Society presidency; former Church Service missionary in the Beehive House, counselor in ward Young Women and Primary presidencies, Primary achievement day leader, Mia Maid adviser, and Young Women secretary; received bachelor's degree in journalism and human development from Weber State University; born in Ogden, Utah, to Duane Merle and Lois Virginia Smith McIntire.

Suau'upa'ia K. Pe'a, 58, Northpoint 2nd Ward, Salt Lake Rose Park North Stake; first counselor in stake presidency; former high councilor, temple ordinance worker, bishop and counselor, Young Men president, and teachers quorum instructor; manager of interpretative services for the Church; attended BYU; born in Vaiola, Western Samoa, to Kalosi Tuitufu and Aipa'upa'u Matuauto Pe'a; married Talaloa Mulitalo, five children. She is ward music director; former Primary and Relief Society music leader, and Primary teacher; artist with the Utah Arts Council; born in Saluafata, Western Samoa, to Pa'ovale and To'alima Roberts Mulitalo.

Patrick J. Schwartz, 44, Mueller Park 7th Ward, Bountiful Utah Mueller Park Stake; high priests group leader; former high councilor, stake mission president, ward mission leader, elders quorum president and counselor, and Primary teacher; senior vice president for Global Styrenics; received bachelor's degree in business from the University of Cincinnati; born in Sidney, Ohio, to Robert Francis and Florence Marie Redmond Schwartz; married Barbara Battelle, seven children. She is ward Young Women president; former ward Relief Society president, Primary president and counselor, Relief Society teacher, and nursery leader; attended Wright State University and Indiana University; born in Dayton, Ohio, to Gordon Kermit and Kathrine Allen Rich Common Battelle.

Larry G. Stoddard, 58, Bringhurst Ward, Pocatello Idaho Tyhee Stake; stake president; former stake executive secretary, high councilor, bishop, high priests group leader, Sunday School teacher, elders quorum president, and missionary in the French Mission; Beneficial Life agent and agency manager; received bachelor's degree in accounting from Idaho State University, and studied financial planning at American College; born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Grant L. And Virginia M. Sessions Stoddard; married Annette Oswald, three children. She is a counselor in the ward Relief Society presidency; former stake Primary president, counselor in stake Young Women presidency, stake inservice leader, ward Young Women president and counselor, Primary president and counselor, Relief Society and Young Women teacher, inservice leader, and Primary teacher; born in Rexburg, Idaho, to Willard J. and Ina Jensen Oswald.

Darwin L. Thomas, 65, Spanish Fork 14th Ward, Spanish Fork Utah Stake; counselor in the stake presidency of BYU 3rd Stake; former member and chairman of the General Church Correlation Evaluation Committee, high councilor, bishop, priests quorum adviser, teachers quorum adviser, and missionary in Uruguay and Peru; sociology professor at BYU; received bachelor's and master's degrees in child development and family relations from BYU, and doctorate in family sociology from the University of Minnesota; born in Genola, Utah, to David Bynon and Grace Rebecca Hartvigsen Thomas; married Beverly Morrison, six children. She is a member of the BYU 3rd Stake Relief Society board; former regional choir director, counselor in ward Young Women and Relief Society presidencies, ward choir director, Relief Society teacher, Young Women teacher, and Primary teacher; director of Utah Valley Children's Choir; received bachelor's degree in music from BYU; born in Lovell, Wyo., to Francis Elggren and Cleo Mickelson Morrison.
